Introducing Connecting HR

It’s been two months since there was an update about LearningCamp, but I’m pleased to say that today’s news is good news.

We were recently contacted by John Ingham and Gareth Jones, who have been running the very successful Connecting HR Tweetups. It quickly became clear that our aims were very similar and that there were real benefits in combining our activties. I’m therefore delighted to announce that we are putting our efforts into supporting the first Connecting HR unconference, to be run in London this October.

From the start our goal has been to create something that was different to ordinary conferences in its scope and appeal, and to bring together likeminded and forward thinking people from across the Learning & Development industry. This goal can only be enhanced by taking the opportunity to connect with people from across the whole HR spectrum.

If you’d like to be involved in shaping, planing and of course attending the unconference please contact us.

LearningCamp London Postponed

We have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the LearningCamp event that we had planned to run on 10th July.

The model that we were working to was based on being able to attract 100 attendees, and get 5 sponsors on board. As it stands, 6 people have booked to attend and only 1 sponsor has been found. With just a month to go until the planned date, that was just not enough to give us the confidence to go ahead.

Right at the start, we ran a survey to help us understand what people wanted. The results of that led us to think that scheduling the event for a weekend was a good idea, but the feedback we’ve received would suggest otherwise. It probably doesn’t help that 10th July is the start of the holiday season for some, and that it’s the last weekend of the World Cup.

We haven’t given up the idea of running this kind of event, and if the interest is there we will come up with another date either later this year or early in 2011. As we plan the next steps, we’ll be using the Twitter account at @thelearncamp to share our plans and gather your feedback, so please do follow us there if you’d like to be involved.

Thank you to everyone that has supported us this far. For those of you that have already booked a place, refunds will be with you later today. We’d particularly like to thank Sarah Frame and her colleagues at UEL for offering such a great venue, and to Craig Taylor at Urenco for the offer of sponsorship.
